(More customer reviews)My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee had developed an A/C coolant leak. Research suggested that there was a well-documented problem with Grand Cherokees of this era (and other Chrysler products) developing a leak in the evaporator under the dash, a rather expensive repair that I had already done once over the life of the vehicle. A couple of online professional AC repair articles had mentioned some stop leak products that some professional installers had had positive experiences with specific to the Grand Cherokee. One of the products listed was the Red Angel stop leak.
I ordered the Red Angel (Amazon seemed to be the only vendor that had the product with a built-in applicator as opposed to buying an AC oil injector). The recharge process I followed was to run a vacuum pump (obtained on a tool loan from Autozone) on the system for an hour, then I hit it right away with the Red Angel, and then immediately refilled the system with R134A. The system blows cold air and has done so for a longer period than the last two top-ups not using a stop leak (it has been a month and a half since installation, the previous two top-ups lasted about 3 weeks). I specifically avoided the stop leak/134A combo cans sold at retailers, because most of them had warnings about how if the refill wasn't accomplished in a specific number of minutes, the stop leak compound could seal up the low pressure connection. On the other hand, the Red Angel product says that it stays fluid in the A/C system and will separate out with the coolant oil if the system is ever evacuated.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this is a relatively long-term fix for the problem. Time will tell.

How does it work? Red Angel is inert until it mixes with R-134a. Once activated, it seeks out oxygen (which is present at the site of a leak) and bonds with it, forming a chemical weld and sealing the leak. How large of a leak does it repair? Red Angel will seal leaks in A/C systems that can hold 5 inches of vacuum for 25 minutes or 15 inches of vacuum for 5 minutes. A system that won't hold 5" of vacuum on the low side for 25 minutes has a leak that is too large to be sealed, and will need a hard part repair. How much do I use? One bottle (2oz.) is used for A/C systems up to a 5 lb. capacity. When adding Red Angel to an evacuated system, substitute 2oz. Red Angel for 2oz. of oil. When a vehicle has a slow leak & maintains a partial charge, add 2 oz. of Red Angel along with the necessary amount of R-12 or R-134a (see service manual). What happens if I recycle the refrigerant? Red Angel is removed from the A/C system with the refrigerant. It is then separated from the refrigerant with the reclaimed oil. It will not clog or damage a recovery unit.
